Devops Engineer
About the role
To improve coverage for a round-the-clock DevOps team, we currently have a strong preference for candidates who can work in the Americas timezone.
Sigma Prime is looking for a self-driven DevOps engineer to help build, automate, operate, and improve infrastructure for Ethereum network development, testing, and production systems.
You will work closely with developers building core decentralised infrastructure, supporting everything from local test environments to high-performance production systems.
This role is centred around reliability, automation, operational ownership, and long-term infrastructure design. We are looking for someone who enjoys improving systems, reducing operational overhead, and building infrastructure that is reproducible and resilient.
This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced Ethereum researchers and engineers on critical infrastructure used across the ecosystem.
The Company
Sigma Prime is a blockchain security and distributed systems consultancy focused on securing critical decentralised infrastructure.
Since 2016, we have worked with many of the most prominent teams in the industry, delivering security assessments, protocol research, design consultancy, and specialist engineering services across complex Web3 systems, distributed protocols, zero-knowledge systems, infrastructure, and smart contracts.
We are also the creators and maintainers of Lighthouse, an Ethereum consensus client used by roughly 40% of the network.
The Role
You will help build and maintain infrastructure used for Ethereum network development, testing, monitoring, and production systems.
Our work requires both small-scale and large-scale network testing under a variety of real-world conditions. You will create tooling, automation, observability systems, testnets, and deployment infrastructure that help developers validate software behaviour and identify issues early.
Beyond operating infrastructure, we are looking for someone who actively improves it. We value engineers who identify fragile or repetitive processes and turn them into reliable automated systems.
Kubernetes And Infrastructure
You may fit this role if you:
-
Have strong experience with Kubernetes and Terraform/OpenTofu
-
Have experience administering self-hosted Kubernetes clusters such as RKE2, K3s, or bare-metal Kubernetes
-
Understand Kubernetes architecture, including deployments, ingress, storage, upgrades, rollbacks, and failure recovery
-
Are familiar with Kubernetes networking, including service discovery, DNS, load balancing, and cross-cluster connectivity
-
Have experience operating Kubernetes across multiple infrastructure providers
-
Can optimise infrastructure for cost-efficient, high-throughput blockchain workloads
-
Have experience building CI/CD pipelines for containerised applications
-
Prefer building highly automated infrastructure and deployment systems over manual operational workflows
Automation And Operations
You may fit this role if you:
-
Have strong Linux and server administration experience
-
Are comfortable with shell scripting, systemd, journald, and operational tooling
-
Understand server security, patching, access control, and operational hardening
-
Have strong networking fundamentals, including routing, DNS, and domain management
-
Have experience working with Ansible, inventories, roles, Jinja2 templates, and YAML
-
Enjoy automating repeatable work and improving long-term operational reliability
Blockchain And Ethereum
You may fit this role if you:
-
Understand blockchain concepts such as blocks, forks, and chain state
-
Have familiarity with blockchain networking, peer discovery, and distributed systems behaviour
-
Have a high-level understanding of blockchain signature schemes such as ECDSA
-
Are genuinely enthusiastic about Ethereum and decentralised systems
-
Want to deepen your understanding of Ethereum infrastructure and network operations
Candidates with extensive DevOps experience but limited blockchain experience will still be considered. However, enthusiasm for Ethereum and decentralised systems is essential.
Working Style
We provide high-level strategic guidance and constructive feedback, but we do not micro-manage. Candidates must be comfortable owning their day-to-day work, identifying problems, proposing improvements, and driving tasks to completion without waiting for detailed instructions.
We are especially interested in people who notice fragile or repetitive processes and turn them into reliable automated systems.
Candidates should be willing to rotate being on-call for infrastructure issues and outages.
Candidates must be proficient in technical conversations in English, both written and verbal. Perfect English is not required.
No jerks or bullies.
